What is Direct Primary Care?

Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a model of healthcare delivery that prioritizes the relationship between the patient and their primary care provider (PCP).

DPC improves access to quality healthcare with a flat, affordable membership fee that covers standard primary care services for health and wellness promotion and injury prevention. It includes direct communication between patient and provider; More flexibility in the types of appointments and communications; No third-party billing (insurance); No long wait times to schedule appointments.

The DPC model has shown improved health outcomes for patients. Patients have better access to their chosen primary care provider and develop an empowering relationship that facilitates truly person-centered, whole person care.  DPC primary care providers are available for care coordination and communications with patients and provide same or next day appointments. This increased availability is accomplished by eliminating the administrative burden and restrictive limits set by insurance plans and by limiting the size of their panels to about a third of the panel size that is typical in most health care organizations. These differences allow providers to
maintain a healthy work-life balance and provide care to patients in the way that is fulfilling instead of exhausting.
