Being a rural family nurse practitioner in primary care has been a life-long career goal that started with growing up in a small logging community, Toutle, in Southwest Washington and volunteering as a First Responder, then Emergency Medical Technician and Fire Fighter while still in high school.

Initially, she pursued pre-medical, biology studies in college at Biola University, but she soon learned that the practice of medicine and the treatment of diseases did not fit her health belief model. With some guidance and encouragement, Angella found that the nursing profession's approach to health was where she was feeling called to serve (see Definition of Nursing in the footnote below). She completed her prerequisites and transfer degree at Lower Columbia College in Longview, WA then moved to Bozeman for nursing school at Montana State University.

While working as a Certified Nursing Assistant, she was injured by a combative resident and was unable to advance in nursing school due to the nature of the injury which took another seven years to resolve.

In the interim, Angella started and managed a masonry construction business with her spouse and had three sons.

In 2013, Angella started over and completed nursing school at Walla Walla Community College in 2015, then her Bachelor of Science in Nursing through Washington State University in 2016.

She worked in a Skilled Nursing Facility, in an Internal Medicine Clinic, in a Walk-In Clinic, and then four years with Providence Neurosurgery in Walla Walla, WA while completing her undergraduate and graduate nursing education and raising her three sons. She was actively involved in the Nursing Best Practice Council and with the Patient and Caregiver Experience Council at Providence in Walla Walla and led practice improvement projects. One notable project restructured pain management for postoperative neurosurgery patients and was evaluated as her doctoral project for which she was invited to speak at conferences, serve on an advisory panel, and write a journal article. Angella was awarded the Outstanding DNP Student for the 2020 Washington State University Graduate School of Nursing.

Angella spent another seven months working as a Registered Nurse testing and triaging Covid 19 patients during the height of the pandemic.

Transitioning to primary care as a Family Nurse Practitioner in a Federally Qualified Health Center in Kennewick, WA was disappointing to say the least. The reality of being a nursing professional in an organization and industry that is managed under the same philosophy that led to the change from medicine to nursing so many years before hit hard. Despite obtaining training to provide whole-person health and wellness care, she was forced to see too many patients to provide anything except disease treatment or to have time to take care of herself and her family.  In June 2021, she moved back to SW Washington and worked for three years in a rural health clinic in NW Oregon.  Though a vast improvement, this experience was similar in that it did not support the vision and purpose for whole person care that inspired Angella to pursue her career.

Treasured Health and Wellness, PLLC founded with vision of providing whole-person care and partnering with patients to achieve their health and wellness goals.

WHY NURSING?

Nursing integrates the art and science of caring and focuses on the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and human functioning; prevention of illness and injury; facilitation of healing; and alleviation of suffering through compassionate presence. Nursing is the diagnosis and treatment of human responses and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations in recognition of the connection of all humanity.
